Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Consortium Ventures (Pty) Ltd, trading as GetWeather, collects, uses and protects your personal information, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). We are the "responsible party" for the information described here.

1. What we collect

• Email address: to create your account, sign you in, and send account emails (welcome, payment confirmation, password resets) and service updates about events you've signed up for.
• Mobile number: to contact you about your event (for example a final-forecast message before the start) and for support. Never sold, never shared, never used for unrelated marketing.
• Password: stored only as a cryptographic hash. We can't read it.
• Event and pass records: which events you've signed up for, your race category, and whether you hold a pass.
• Payment records: the confirmation PayFast sends us (amount, status, payment reference and the name and email on the payment). We never see or store card or bank account numbers.
• Technical data: standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages you request), kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.

Your pacing plan (speed and checkpoint stops) is saved in your own browser's local storage, on your device. It isn't sent to our servers.

2. Why we use it

We process your information only to provide the service you signed up for (our contract with you), to meet legal and accounting obligations, and for our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. We don't use it for automated decision-making or profiling, and we don't sell it.

3. Cookies

We use a single, essential cookie that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies.

4. Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers (operators) that help us run GetWeather, and only as much as each one needs:

• PayFast (South Africa): processes payments.
• Railway: hosts our application and database.
• Resend: delivers our account and payment emails.
• Zoho: hosts our support mailbox.

Some of these providers store data outside South Africa. Where that happens, we rely on providers bound by data-protection laws or agreements that give protection substantially similar to POPIA (section 72). We may also disclose information if the law requires us to.

5. How we protect it

All traffic to the site is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, access to our systems is restricted, and card payments happen entirely on PayFast's secure platform. If a security breach affects your information, we'll notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. Payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires (generally five years). When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal information except where we must legally keep it.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Email support@getweather.co.za from your account address. We'll respond within 30 days.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za.

Our Information Officer can be reached at support@getweather.co.za or at the address above. If we change this policy, the current version will always be at this address, with the date at the top.
